Whidbey Island Genealogy Meet-up
The Whidbey Island Genealogy Meet-up is an informal gathering for island residents to collaborate on family history projects in a hands-on environment. Attendees are encouraged to bring their laptop or research materials to work on your specific projects in a casual, supportive setting. Attendees are encouraged to share their expertise, troubleshoot research challenges, and learn from one another in real time.
The public is welcome to attend, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned researcher. While the Sno-Isle Genealogical Society (SIGS) participates in these gatherings, the meet-up is an independent community group. Join us for a collaborative afternoon of practical genealogy and community building.
Genealogy Lab
Our monthly Genealogy Lab is a hands-on environment rather than a formal lecture. We encourage you to drop in with your laptops or devices to work on your specific projects in a casual, collaborative setting. While we will provide a specific "area of focus" each month to spark discussion, the primary goal is for us to help one another troubleshoot and learn in real time. We’ll have the kettle on for coffee and tea, so feel free to bring your favorite mug and join us for some practical, hands-on genealogy.
April General Meeting - Find Your Family: A Pop-Up Workshop
This month, we invite you to discover your family’s history during a hands-on, collaborative workshop. We are stepping away from the traditional lecture format to create a space where community members work shoulder-to-shoulder to solve mysteries and uncover new leads. Whether you are looking to take a first step, a next step, or a big leap on your genealogy journey, this evening is designed for you.
This is an invitation to bring your laptop, tablet, or 3-ring binder and your curiosity to the table. Instead of a formal presentation, we will work in a peer-to-peer environment, sharing leads and helping one another navigate the unfinished narratives of our past. Whether you are looking for a specific missing record, curious if a relative served in the military, or just wondering how to organize your research tools, you’ll find a community ready to help.
Please note: This is an in-person workshop event; there is no online component for this month’s meeting.
Brick Wall Sessions
Sno-Isle Genealogical Society is offering researchers an opportunity to get help with their "brick wall" problems on Saturday, March 21, 2026. To make a reservation call 425-775-6267 to leave a message. Your call will be returned later to confirm your appointment. The free 40 minute session is an "in person" appointment. If all 4 sessions are filled you will be placed on a waiting list for the next "brick wall" day.
Thank you to Margaret Summitt for leading these sessions. Margaret is an experienced genealogy research who is eager to share her insights, tips, and knowledge to help you break through your brick walls.

Writing Your Family History Workshop
DO YOU HAVE A LIST OF THINGS YOU WANT TO DO? One of them has to be to write your family history stories. In connection with the America 250 Year Celebration, our Sno-isle Genealogical Society volunteers, Brenda and Phylis, wants to assist you in becoming the author of your family history at the Humble House library on select Wednesday in January and February. Stories can be as long or as short as you want. You do not have to be a published author to do this. They are OUR own family stories. Our Library has many great books that can assist with historical information you may want to include in your stories. Bring your note book and pen/pencil and we can tackle this writing project together. Call the library at 425-775-6267 or stop by to reserve your space in this workshop. Space is limited. We look forward to helping you
